With virtually everything shifting online, businesses have now increasingly used social media advertising to engage and connect with customers online. It is through social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter that we are able to communicate with our followers to show them how our products and services can serve as a solution to them. Here we break down the three basic social media 101 tips to help you effectively use social media as a business-leveraging tool!

Top 3 Social Media Advertising Tips

  1. Following

It is very important that you not only follow your customers, but anyone else you want in your professional social space. This includes publications, manufacturers, event holders, and even competitors! By strategically following certain people and/or companies, you are then exposed to their content and daily updates. You’ll can stay informed on relevant topics, see the information your customers want to hear about, and are able to engage with them by liking, commenting, and sharing posts.

  1. Tagging

When creating a post, if you are mentioning a company or a person of influence, it helps to tag them in the post. Why? It will notify the page they’ve been tagged and reveals your content to them whether it’s an installation you’ve done or a piece of content they haven’t seen before, including an article or a video. It also opens up the potential for them to share your post and expose your page to their followers.

To ensure you’re properly tagging a page:

  • Press the “@” symbol and type in the page name
  • The platform will give you a list of options to choose from
  • Select the correct one and make sure it is in bold or colored- that’s how you know the page is tagged!
  1. Hashtags

Hashtags are considered keywords, which helps the platform’s formula sort how the post is shown to users. The first rule of #hashtagging is to incorporate them into your posts and not put them in a clump at the bottom of your post. It’s also important to only hashtag relevant words that pertain to the industry, brand, or product.

Hashtags allow your posts to be discovered! Users can follow hashtags on LinkedIn and Instagram so they can see the most relevant posts.  You’ll also receive notifications prompting to check out the trending post in the hashtag you’re following such as #smarthome or #securitysystems.
