As many people are still working from home, we’ve seen more and more companies start to lean on digital marketing, particularly on focused SEO to boost their presence online. In a time where we may not be able to be as “present” as we used to be, digital marketing offers many benefits to companies, and especially security dealers.

We recently checked in with Todd Johnson, CEO of Connect Security, where he explained his company’s focus on digital marketing, specifically search engine optimization (SEO). Read the full article here.

What is SEO?

SEO plays a leading role in driving website traffic. Moz defines SEO as, “The practice of increasing both the quality and quantity of website traffic, as well as exposure to your brand, through non-paid (also known as “organic”) search engine results.” The majority of online traffic is driven by search engines, therefore increasing your ranking can help your business in many ways.

There are many benefits of focused SEO – from ranking higher in search engines, bringing in more traffic to your website, better conversion rates, and just simply building brand awareness. We break down five easy tips that your company can implement today!

Top 5 SEO Tips

  1. Create compelling, engaging content

The key to increase site views is to create interesting valuable content for your audience. Ask yourself if your website truly compels an end user to be interested in security. Depending on your site, there could be many areas for new opportunities, including your company’s blog page.

  1. Use strong keywords in your website

This will attract users and search engines. Some top keywords for the security market include smart home automation, home security installation, and easy to install home security. You can also download Detailed, a free extension that gives you focused SEO insights for each page of your website.

  1. Add videos to your website

Videos are only becoming more and more popular! Users are more likely to stay on your website if they see a fun, engaging video, rather than a long page with only text. Check out this recent video we created about the 3G to LTE transition that you can share with end users!

  1. Create meaningful URLs

If your URL is hard to understand, filled with a random combination of letters and numbers, it’s likely search engines will have a hard time understanding it as well. Keep it simple, like using the title of the page. And don’t use a hashtag sign (#). It’s not supported by Googlebot.

  1. Leverage social media

Sharing content on social media and linking back to your website is a great way to increase traffic. You can also add social sharing buttons to make your blogs or any other content on your website shareable by others. In this blog, we share other easy social media tips to help your business.

  1. Make your website secure

Google won’t rank you as high without a secure website certificate. You can do so by choosing a secure website hosting platform (GoDaddy and BlueHost are two examples).
